Question

Chemical antagonism with one example.

Q121 marksShort Answers

Answer

Chemical antagonism occurs when two drugs combine chemically with each other, forming an inactive complex, so that the action of the active drug is neutralized/nullified without involving any receptor interaction. Example: Protamine sulphate (strongly basic) neutralizes heparin (strongly acidic) by forming a stable, inactive complex — used to reverse heparin’s anticoagulant effect.
