  • Thromboembolism — deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism (oestrogen-related increase in clotting factors)
  • Increased risk of myocardial infarction and stroke (especially in smokers, women >35 years, hypertensives)
  • Hypertension
  • Hepatic adenoma/cholestatic jaundice
  • Gallstones (increased biliary cholesterol saturation)
  • Possible small increased risk of breast and cervical cancer (while reducing risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer)
