Clomiphene citrate is a selective oestrogen receptor modulator used as an ovulation-inducing agent.

Mechanism of action

  • Competitively blocks hypothalamic oestrogen receptors, interfering with negative feedback of endogenous oestrogen, leading to increased GnRH pulsatility and increased FSH/LH secretion — stimulating follicular development and ovulation

Uses

  • First-line treatment for anovulatory infertility (e.g., in PCOS)
