Answer

Isoniazid (INH) interferes with vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) metabolism by forming an inactive hydrazone complex with pyridoxal phosphate and by inhibiting pyridoxine kinase, leading to functional pyridoxine deficiency, which manifests as peripheral neuropathy (due to impaired synthesis of neurotransmitters/myelin dependent on pyridoxine). Co-administering pyridoxine supplementation prevents/treats this INH-induced peripheral neuropathy without interfering with isoniazid’s antitubercular action.
