Answer

Isoniazid forms an inactive hydrazone complex with pyridoxal phosphate and inhibits pyridoxine kinase, leading to functional pyridoxine (vitamin B6) deficiency, which manifests as peripheral neuropathy (due to impaired synthesis of neurotransmitters/myelin dependent on pyridoxine). Co-administering pyridoxine supplementation prevents/treats this INH-induced peripheral neuropathy without interfering with isoniazid’s antitubercular action.
