Q211 marks

Answer

Two parasitic diseases where man acts as the intermediate host: Malaria (Plasmodium species — humans harbour the asexual cycle; the Anopheles mosquito is the definitive host) and Hydatid disease (Echinococcus granulosus — humans are an accidental intermediate host harbouring the larval hydatid cyst; the dog is the definitive host).

(Other valid example: cysticercosis, Taenia solium — humans as accidental intermediate host harbouring the larval cysticercus, while humans are also the definitive host for the adult tapeworm in intestinal taeniasis.)
