Answer

  • Obstetric: Dinoprostone (PGE2) and Misoprostol (PGE1 analogue) for cervical ripening and labour induction; Misoprostol with mifepristone for medical termination of pregnancy; Carboprost (PGF2α analogue) for postpartum hemorrhage unresponsive to oxytocin.
  • Cardiovascular: Alprostadil (PGE1) to maintain ductal patency in neonates with ductus-dependent congenital heart disease awaiting surgery; Epoprostenol (synthetic PGI2) in pulmonary arterial hypertension.
  • Gastric protection: Misoprostol protects gastric mucosa, co-prescribed with NSAIDs to counteract their COX-1-mediated loss of protective mucosal prostaglandin.
  • Ophthalmic: Latanoprost and related PGF2α analogues lower intraocular pressure in open-angle glaucoma by increasing uveoscleral outflow.
  • Erectile dysfunction: Alprostadil, by intracavernosal injection or intraurethral application.
