Antibiotic resistance is the ability of a microorganism to survive and multiply in the presence of a concentration of an antibiotic that would normally inhibit or kill it.
Mechanisms of resistance
Enzymatic drug inactivation (e.g., beta-lactamases hydrolysing penicillins)
