Question
Specify the important spectrum of vancomycin
Q11 1 marks Short Answers ★ ✓
Answer
Vancomycin’s spectrum is essentially limited to Gram-positive organisms, including MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), MRSE, and enterococci (though VRE strains are resistant), and is also the treatment of choice for severe C. difficile-associated pseudomembranous colitis (oral route). It has no useful activity against Gram-negative organisms.
