Answer

Albendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic.

MOA: albendazolebinds parasitic beta-tubulininhibits microtubule polymerization → the parasite cannot maintain its cytoskeleton, transport glucose across its gut lining, or divide → energy depletion and death.

Uses: soil-transmitted helminthiasis (ascariasis, hookworm, whipworm), neurocysticercosis, hydatid disease, strongyloidiasis.

Adverse effects: GI upset, hepatotoxicity with prolonged/high-dose use, teratogenicity (avoided in pregnancy), bone marrow suppression with prolonged high-dose therapy.
