Mechanism of action of cyclosporine

  • Binds to cyclophilin (an intracellular immunophilin); this complex inhibits calcineurin

  • By inhibiting calcineurin, cyclosporine suppresses IL-2 production, reducing T-lymphocyte activation and proliferation
