Name four killed vaccines.

Q82 marksShort Notes

Answer

Four examples of killed (inactivated) vaccines — containing a whole pathogen (or its components) that has been killed/inactivated, unable to replicate in the host, generally requiring multiple doses/boosters to achieve durable immunity:

  1. Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV, Salk vaccine).
  2. Whole-cell pertussis vaccine (wP) — as used in the traditional DPT combination.
  3. Rabies vaccine (modern cell-culture-derived, e.g., human diploid cell vaccine).
  4. Inactivated influenza vaccine.

(Other valid examples: hepatitis A vaccine, typhoid Vi polysaccharide/injectable typhoid vaccine, cholera killed whole-cell oral vaccine.)
