Streptogramins are a class of antibiotics consisting of two structurally distinct components (a streptogramin A and streptogramin B) that act synergistically by binding to the bacterial 50S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting protein synthesis. Example: Quinupristin-dalfopristin — used for infections due to vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE) and multidrug-resistant Gram-positive infections.
