Question

Tachyphylaxis. Give examples

Q81 marksShort Answers

Answer

Tachyphylaxis is the rapid development of tolerance (diminishing therapeutic response) to a drug, occurring after only a few repeated doses given in quick succession, rather than the gradual decline seen with typical chronic tolerance. Examples: Ephedrine (repeated doses show progressively weaker pressor response due to depletion of stored noradrenaline), Nitrates (with continuous/frequent dosing without a nitrate-free interval).
