Answer
- [x] b) Anti Streptolysin O test
The Antistreptolysin O (ASO) titre is the standard serological test used to demonstrate a recent/preceding streptococcal infection in a patient with suspected acute rheumatic fever or rheumatic heart disease, since a positive throat culture is often no longer obtainable by the time rheumatic sequelae manifest (typically 2–4 weeks after the original pharyngitis). Coagulase and bacitracin tests are used for staphylococcal/streptococcal identification in culture (not serodiagnosis of prior infection), and “antiphosphatase test” is not a recognized standard diagnostic test.
