Answer

Free-living amoeba: Naegleria fowleri, which causes Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM) — a rapidly progressive, almost universally fatal meningoencephalitis acquired via nasal exposure to contaminated warm freshwater, with the amoeba migrating along the olfactory nerve to invade the brain. (Acanthamoeba species — causing granulomatous amoebic encephalitis and amoebic keratitis — is another valid example of a free-living amoeba.)
