Q171 marks

Answer

Linitis plastica (“leather bottle stomach”) refers to a diffuse infiltrative pattern of gastric carcinoma (classically the signet-ring cell type) in which malignant cells infiltrate extensively through the gastric wall along with a marked desmoplastic (fibrotic) reaction, causing diffuse thickening and rigidity of the stomach wall without forming a discrete mass, producing a thickened, non-distensible “leather bottle” appearance grossly.
