Q112 marksShort Notes

Answer

Four markers of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection:

  1. HBsAg — indicates current infection (chronic if >6 months).
  2. Anti-HBs — indicates recovery with immunity, or successful vaccination.
  3. IgM anti-HBc — indicates recent/acute infection.
  4. HBeAg — marker of active viral replication and high infectivity.

(Other valid examples: IgG anti-HBc — past/current infection; anti-HBe; HBV DNA — quantitative marker of active replication.)
