Answer
Oxytocin is the appropriate choice — given as a titratable IV infusion, it produces controlled, rhythmic uterine contractions that can be adjusted in real time to mimic normal labour, suitable for induction/augmentation. Methylergometrine produces a sustained, tetanic uterine contraction rather than a rhythmic pattern, making it unsuitable and unsafe for labour induction (risk of uterine rupture/fetal distress from a non-relaxing uterus); its use is confined to the third stage of labour, for prevention/treatment of postpartum hemorrhage after delivery.
