- Escherichia coli — the commonest cause (~80% of community-acquired UTIs), via uropathogenic strains bearing P-fimbriae.
- Klebsiella pneumoniae.
- Proteus mirabilis — notable for urease production, associated with struvite (urinary) stone formation.
- Staphylococcus saprophyticus — particularly in young, sexually active women.
(Other valid examples: Enterococcus faecalis; Pseudomonas aeruginosa, typically catheter-associated/nosocomial UTI.)
